The Avox

By: Madiha and Irma

Anger is a searing hot red
It tastes like insipid revenge
It reeks of a traitor and a rebel
It feels like the ghost of a missing tongue
It sounds like the warning calls of the birds
It looks like a metallic hovercraft coming closer
Anger is the act that leads to forgiveness.

My Worst Mistake

Over the summer I made I mistake that I really regret. It is said that the first sight of the khana Kaaba, you can make whatever wish you want to and it will come true. But you can’t look too early at it or else your wish won’t count. I was very tempted and I couldn’t suppress the curiosity, so I looked too early and now I feel like I shouldn’t have. I could have kept my eyes on the floor for at least another few minutes. For those of you who don’t know what the Khana Kaaba is, here’s a picture:

The Championship Match

My brothers’ team, the Cubs, went against the Royals today in the minor division fall championship at WHLL. The Cubs had a great season and everyone on the team played well. But, they lost their game with a score of 5 to 3. They were playing really well in the first two innings, but started to fall behind. My brother, Suleman, pitched the first three innings. He made a single and a triple in the third inning. He had an awesome hit to the fence, and made one of the three runs. My other brother, Nouman, struck out two times, but performed well on the field.
I was really upset to find out they had lost, but they can still try again next year!!!

My Baby Sister

I have a really cute baby sister at home!! Her name is Isra and she is already one! She was born on August 16, 2012. Isra is the sweetest and prettiest baby I have ever known. She learned to walk over the summer, and now runs all over the house. I love to see her smile and she always makes me laugh. Isra learns new things everyday and right now she’s learning how to talk. She has ten teeth already and can say some words and even waves when I say hi!! I love Isra more than anything and can’t imagine my life without her!!! />

Going to the Championship

My brothers play on the Cubs in the minor division at WHLL and they are going to the championship!!! Their team worked really hard to make it this far. They had a great season, winning most of their games. On Monday they went against the Astros and won 12 to 6. On Tuesday they went against the Rangers and won 13 to 5. Yesterday’s match was really tough because the Rangers beat the Yankees, who stand as first. But luckily the Cubs beat them and are now going to play the championship match on Thursday against the Royals.
The Cubs have played two games against Royals, won one and lost the other. So, it’s hard to say who will win because both teams are really good. But, I hope that my brothers win their first championship!!! 😄😃😃

The Hunger Games!!!

We are reading The Hunger Games in class right now. I have never read it before or seen the movie. I watched this trailer and the movie seems really exciting!!!

Dubai!!!!

Dubai is a really beautiful city located in the Unites Arab Emirates (UAE). Over the summer, we stopped there for one night, and stayed at the Emirates Hotel. We found a taxi and went to the Gold Market, a museum, the Dubai Mall, and even to Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world). We took a tour called “At the Top.” I got to go to the 123rd floor and we took a lot of pictures from the top looking down at the whole city. You could see all the roads and cars and the tall buildings surrounding Burj Khalifa.
I liked the tour but when we stopped at the gold market, we had to go around outside to the different shops and it was REALLY hot. After that we went back to our hotel and stayed there for the rest of the day. The hotel came with our flight tickets and they served free meals downstairs. I used most of the time to catch up on sleep. I hadn’t slept the whole night since we were up waiting for our flight to Dubai, and now we had spent the whole day exploring Dubai. Night was falling, and our next flight would be the long one that takes about 14 to 15 hours. It would leave Dubai around three in the morning and our destination was Dallas.
We got on the bus going to the airport, with only a little bit luggage, since we had sent on the rest and it was probably already in Dallas. I had my baby sister in my lap and I was trying to keep her quiet as I clung onto the last bits of my summer vacation. Hard to believe I was actually going home.
At the airport, we waited at our gate for a while because we were early. Then they opened the boarding gates and everyone stood up and formed a line. Half of the people were already downstairs waiting for the bus to take them to the airplane. We were halfway there when suddenly my brother threw up. I stood shocked with my hand over my mouth and realized that everyone was doing the same thing. My sister was standing in front of me, so I knew that nothing could’ve gotten on me. My dad and my brother were taken to the doctor in the airport. He said he wasn’t feeling good, so I was kind of expecting something like this to happen.
The rest of us checked in our passport and tickets and went downstairs, but then we had to go back up. When my dad and brother finally came back, he was feeling better. We rushed downstairs and got on the last bus taking us to the airplane. We ran up the stairs and were the last people to board. Everyone else was already seated and they watched us as we took our seats. I sat by the window only so I could watch the city disappear behind me.
