Boredom

“What time is our flight?” I asked my mom, feeling excitement going through my veins. We had just gotten off the fourteen hour flight from Dallas. I couldn’t wait until we boarded our next flight because it had been three long years, since I visited my relatives.

Instead of telling me our flight time, my mom tells me how many hours we have to wait. “Six hours?!” I say jerking me head up at her response. Not knowing what else to do, I try to fall asleep, hoping that when I wake up it will be time to step on to Emirates Airlines once again.

As I wait at my gate, I stare at the clock in silence. I watch every second, every minute go by. The hands on the clock seem to slow down even more, or maybe I’m just imagining it. My thoughts began to drift, my eyes began to slowly close, and my head all of a sudden felt heavy. My brain shut off, and I couldn’t comprehend what I saw or heard anymore. My breathing slowed down as I drifted off into nothingness.

I Won First Place in UIL

My heartbeat sped up the second I heard my name. I stood up and I could hear the sound of more than a hundred people cheering and applauding at different rhythms. I could feel a bubble of proudness growing in my chest. My worried look was replaced by an indestructible smile and I felt lighter as I walked forward to receive my award. The sight of the glowing faces of my friends and teammates made me confident as I took the medal and placed it over my head.
